Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course

Course Description

The PALS course gives healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. 
The course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest. 
The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital.  Video-based course with instructor-led discussion and simulation
• Students work as effective team members in various roles in the 12 core cases
• Student materials include pre-course self-assessment to identify knowledge gaps for advance study
• Classroom format is ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and instructor feedback while learning skills
back while learning skills American Heart Association PALS Provider Course Completion Card valid for two years.
During the course, an AHA PALS Instructor leads discussion around video-based lessons and simulation. Students participate in 12 core cases. An AHA PALS Instructor works with students as they complete their skills practice and skills testing. Students must also complete a written exam.

 

The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to provide the learner with:

  1. Information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
  2. Information and strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children
  3. The cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest.

Course Length: 16 hours 2-day provider course   1-day renewal 8-9 hours

Intended Audience
Pediatricians, house staff, emergency physicians, family physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who are responsible for the well-being of infants and children.

and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed
instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials
in an educational course does not represent course
sponsorship by the American Heart Association.
